University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations
Cambridge ESOL offers the world's leading range of certificates for learners and teachers of English - taken by over 3 million people in 130 countries. They help people gain entrance to university or college, improve job prospects or measure progress in English. More than 11,000 employers, universities and government bodies around the world recognise Cambridge ESOL qualifications.
More information:
Cambridge ESOL for learners - the Cambridge ESOL exams are characterised by a total commitment to assessment of the highest quality; recognition by universities, employers and official bodies throughout the world and excellent support for teachers and test takers.
Cambridge ESOL for teachers - Cambridge ESOL is also famous for its high quality Teaching Awards, which are recognised internationally. These include the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA), which is the best known and most widely taken initial English language teaching qualification in the world.
Cambridge ESOL is a member of ALTE - the Association of Language Testers in Europe, which provides a forum for the development of assessment standards for European languages. ALTE has member organisations in 28 countries.
Cambridge ESOL exams are backed up by the 'Can Do' statements, developed by members of ALTE. The Can Do system provides a description of what typical candidates at each level can be expected to do in each of the language skills and in a range of contexts. The Can Do statements make it easier for users to understand the significance of each of the levels.
All Cambridge ESOL exams are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) - an internationally recognised benchmark of language ability. The framework uses six levels to describe language ability from A1 to C2. Once you have passed one of our exams, there is a clear pathway ahead for you as your abilities and confidence improve.
